Job Summary:
The Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Warehouse (DW) Solution Architect will focus on delivering the vision of the department through process, development and lifecycle. They will work directly with stakeholders and team members to define, design and deliver actionable insights while working with ETL developers and BI developers in an agile environment. The architect role is to strategically design, implement, and support BI software and systems, including integration with databases and data warehouses, and report writing. They are responsible for the assessment of business requirements, collection and identification of technical specifications, and to guide the subsequent development of technology solutions.
Job Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of the Business Intelligence Architect is data standards and procedures, warehousing, design and development of logical and physical data models and databases, distributed data management, information management functions. The Business Intelligence Architect designs, develops and enforces standards and architecture for installing, configuring and using business intelligence applications for the purpose of directing and managing the organization.
Essential Functions:
- Provide BI Solutions including analytics, dashboards and reports to support all levels of the company in making informative decisions that increase the bottom line through improved quality and services.
- Collaborate with project managers and project sponsors to determine project scope and vision. Work with stakeholders and project team to prioritize collected requirements.
- Translate conceptual user requirements into functional and technical requirements in a clear manner that is comprehensible to developers, customers and project teams.
- Analyze and verify requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and testability
- Communicate changes, enhancements, and modifications – verbally or through written documentation to project managers, sponsors, and other stakeholders.
- Provide customer service by analyzing the data accuracy, efficiency, and usage of existing solutions and provide support through continuous improvement, recommendations and modifications.
- Developing technology specifications and ensuring that new technology solutions are designed for optimal access and user adoption.
- Responsible for leading the strategic design and maintenance of business intelligence applications.
- Applying architectural and engineering concepts to design a solution that meets operational requirements, such as scalability, maintainability, security, reliability, extensibility, flexibility, availability and manageability
- Identifying the technologies to employ based on price, performance, service agreements and organization constraints
- Formulates and recommends standards for achieving maximum performance and efficiency of the DW ecosystem.
- Interview stakeholders and develop BI roadmap for success given project prioritization and budget.
- Evangelize self-service BI and visual discovery while helping to change Excel based culture.
- Champion data quality, integrity, and reliability throughout the department by designing and promoting best practices.
- Provide technical training to external team members to foster stronger cross-departmental relations.
- Manage BI tool set and compel best practices for use with business and project teams.
Qualifications
Adaptability Requirements:
- Position requires a high degree of adaptability. The incumbent will be faced with a variety of issues on a day to day basis and will be expected to respond to these issues appropriately while dealing with multiple priorities and task assignments.
Working Conditions:
- Work to be performed in a normal office environment during regular business hours. Extended work hours when necessary to support global development or to meet deadlines.
Experience and Education:
- BS or BA in computer science, business, or equivalent is required
- 10+ years’ experience delivering business intelligence solutions (prefer MSBI)
- 5+ years Data Warehouse and Data Modeling experience (including OLTP and OLAP)
- 5+ years ETL experience
- 5+ years database query experience, preferably SQL or similar tool
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of Data Warehouse concepts, methods and tools.
- Proven experience with Business Intelligence and Information Management solutions.
- Proven experience with business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development.
- Ability to balance people, process, and technology concerns to achieve implementable solutions to business problems.
- Excellent oral and written communication and listening skills.
- Skilled at problem solving and risk and incident management.
- Ability to interface and influence at all levels in the organization.
- Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) required.
- Ability to provide accurate time estimates for defined work and meet personal and team deliverables and timelines.
