The mission for Metal Toad’s CMO is to triple our revenue from $7.5M to $21M by 2020 through refining our marketing position messaging to attract large profitable contracts, identifying and curating the right marketing channels, and supporting the build of a sales team. This critical position will lead and execute Metal Toad’s outbound brand strategy, marketing communications, market research and sales efforts. You will join our executive team and share overall responsibility for being the flagpole to our vision/mission/values and driving revenue and margin goals. We are looking for big picture strategist able to execute well in a functional role. You can hold court with executives, run a departmental strategic roadmapping session, and then jump into copywriting a blog post. No job is too big or too small. You believe in a people-first approach to leadership and are excited to build a world-class digital agency.    

RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing & Sales Strategy

• Devise overall company marketing strategy as well as marketing strategies for each of our service offerings
• Develop outbound sales strategy, set outbound sales targets, build an outbound sales team, define effective outbound sales methodologies
• Report on outbound sales activities and ROI of outbound sales efforts to internal stakeholders
• Determine how marketing can support outbound sales efforts and respond to the needs of the sales team
• Set the positioning, marketing tone and brand story to inform creative direction to build Metal Toad’s communication channels.
• Translate a strategic marketing plan into actionable quarterly targets and initiatives, keeping team and budget on schedule
• Develop, build and drive company brand based on first class quality work
• Set KPI’s for marketing activities across the business including acquisition, conversion rates, engagement rates and satisfaction rates
• Collect, assess, and provide potential innovations or marketplace-needs insights into Engineering team
• Ownership of other marketing/communication as needed: copywriting, social media, managing PR vendor relationships, etc

Grow Revenue

• Develop segmentation, competitive analysis/market intelligence, prospecting, lead generation, pricing, communications and budgets, strategic planning, and revenue retention and growth
• Partner with technology leadership in the development of marketing initiatives that support our technology roadmap and services that we offer, while aligning to customer demand
• Manage outbound sales and marketing pipeline metrics and ROI analysis; work with cross functional teams to manage and present weekly, monthly and quarterly metrics on marketing revenue performance management
• Align sales strategy with ideal technical roadmap as determined by our engineering team
• Add at least one new multi-million dollar account per year

Leadership

• Join the executive leadership team and work cross-functionally to execute Metal Toad’s vision, mission, and values 
• Lead a team of Sales, Client Service, and Design professionals while ensuring all direct reports are being effectively mentored, challenged, developed, and measured for performance
• Lead, redirect or alter major corporate initiatives on strategy and business models
• Drive the establishment and accountability for goals and objectives of individual team members
• Help craft a strong employer brand to attract top-tier talent

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

Required

• Believe in the company mission
• 15+ years of sales and marketing experience in positions of increasing responsibility
• 10+ years experience in a leadership role with an ability to identify talent and develop, coach and manage a high performing team in a dynamic environment
• 5+ years of sales and marketing experience specifically in a service industry, preferably agency/consultancy experience
• Possess strong leadership, high emotional intelligence, effective communication skills
• Ability to communicate with leadership and board members about marketing strategy, analytics, ROI based off a rapidly evolving strategy
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Marketing or a related field; MBA preferred
• Experience with quantitative and qualitative consumer research methodologies
• Comfortable setting bold objectives, and helping teams to achieve their OKR’s
• Willingness to jump into the weeds and execute work on any scale
• Ability to work onsite in our Portland, OR headquarters
