The Company

We’re a tech company that’s changing how people bank and think about their finances. We value empathy, curiosity, craft and efficacy. Our mission is to help people feel confident with their money. We do that by bringing humanity, elegance and ease to the consumer banking experience. And we make banking beautiful.

The Team

The infrastructure team is a small, close knit team born out of Simple’s original operations team.   We are a 100% remote team: Eastern, Central, and Pacific.  We use slack, github enterprise, kanban, teleconferencing and the telephone to maintain our virtual office. We pride ourselves on our being effective, collaborative, resilient, responsive and adaptive.  We have daily standups, frequently pair, and focus on delivering the right solutions to the right problems.  We believe work is just part of your life, not all of it, and value the 40hr week as a constraint that sustains quality work.   We value quality, consideration, kindness, humor, self improvement, teaching and learning, persistence and a healthy dialectic.

You'll work closely with the customers of the platform with the other platform team to help them to meet their infrastructure needs.  Engineers from Data, SRE, Delivery Lifecycle and Security Engineering collaborate with Infrastructure in evolving and providing support for the technical foundations of our business which serve product engineering, our incident response system, and business needs outside engineering organization itself.   You will work with the Platform Product Manager to help define, plan and execute on critical initiatives for these customers

About You:

You have an operational mindset,  maybe have worked as an SRE or have worked to build and maintain systems to support continuous delivery.  You have helped disseminate and strengthen devops/ops/CD practices in the engineering orgs where you have worked.   You enjoy solving difficult problems that occur in distributed systems, care about metrics, monitoring, and testing and the business outcomes they enable. You take initiative, value active collaboration, continuous improvement, and know how to lead regardless of the role you serve. You weigh tradeoffs and you value simplicity and execution. You want to be a part of building something effective and meaningful, even if it means carving it out of the old and inelegant.

What You’ll Do All Day

Your work with the infrastructure team will focus on evolving and operating our platform which supports critical business effort across simple including such challenges as disaster recovery, business continuity, migrating systems on kubernetes, and shepherding change across our engineering organization.  You will play an active role in running these system, taking call and participating in incidence response, and helping continuously improve the way simple delivers and operates our systems. You mentor younger engineers and help steward changes beyond just your team.

The services we support are mostly on the JVM running on AWS (and increasingly more on kubernetes on AWS). The tools and services we write as team are mostly written in Golang. The legacy system we support cover a wide gamut: ruby, python, chef, and other technologies. We’d Like To See:

  • 5-7 years experience in a similar role
  • Significant continuous Delivery, WebOps, DevOps experience
  • Experience with programming and code archaeology
  • Architecting, implementing, operating systems experience within AWS
  • Hands-on experience working with Kubernetes

Details:

We recognize the dire lack of diversity in our industry, and we’re not okay with it. We actively seek to address it with our hiring and retention processes, as well as our office culture. If you’re on the fence about whether you’re a fit, we say go for it, and apply!

Why Simple’s a Great Place to Work

  • A supportive and nurturing place to work. We actively consider how we can improve employees’ quality of life--both inside and outside the office.
  • Committed to hiring quality human beings. Simple is a place where others will watch out for you and help you learn. We actually like and respect each other.
  • We give a damn about what we do, both as individual contributors and as a company on a mission to change banking. We’re passionate and nerdy about our work; in fact we’re kind of that way about things outside of work, too.
