Manager of Infrastructure Engineering

The Team

The Infrastructure team at Simple is currently working to make our systems better not only for our external customers, but also for our internal product engineering peers. The teams purpose is to service Simple's 24x7 operational, software lifecycle management, and data needs. The team is responsible for policy, implementation, training, and support for the following aspects of Simple's infrastructure: reliability, availability, security, observability, and compliance. We trust our team to analyze and optimize systems on an ongoing basis to help create and maintain these systems.

 This role will work most closely with Platform engineers and peer managers representing product and engineering.

About You:

You should be passionate about cloud-based infrastructure and services, systems and operations. Ideally, we'd like to see a candidate who started out as an engineer but wanted to improve the quality of work life for other engineers and therefore entered management. You should be passionate about process and policies, but also able to let teams learn and grow at their own pace, stepping in when help is needed.

What You’ll Do All Day

As a Manager of Infrastructure Engineering at Simple you will be expected to help the team reach their full potential through coaching, mentorship and optimizing workflows.

• Supporting the performance, development and growth of the engineers that report to you
• Providing team and project leadership in pursuit of highly available cloud infrastructure and effective operations
• Ensuring team and individual objectives are defined and connected to broader organization goals and measures
• Collecting and giving feedback
• Assisting with workload prioritization and balance between unplanned and planned work
• Manage team’s on-call schedule to achieve operational goals and maintain a healthy team
• Analyzing systems and processes to effectively manage costs and continuously improve
• Serving as point of escalation for production on-call duty

We’d Like To See:

• 5-8 years working in infrastructure and operations, at least 2 years as an engineering manager
• Experience managing software infrastructure in a cloud based ecosystem (utilizing containers and K8’s a plus)
• Experience leading infrastructure, operations and/or DevOps teams
• Experience managing geographically distributed teams
• Passion for DevOps ideas and practices for promoting collaboration across technical teams, reducing toil and improving software release processes
• Experience with Agile development principles and practices (we use Kanban at Simple)
• Ability to work with teams and stakeholders to effectively manage and deliver in an environment filled with unplanned and planned work
